Fair Debt Collection Practices Act
The Fair Debt collection Practices Act (FDCPA) refers to a federal which regulates the activities of the debts collectors or collection agencies. This act governs several issues like abusive practices of creditors, debt collectors or collection agencies and much more. It is intended for the protection of consumers from abusive and harassing practices of debtors and debt collectors.
Usually when the law is violated, penalties are imposed on them. The fair debt collection practices Act is actually a United States's statute. The main aim of the act is to eliminate the abusive and harassing practices followed by the debt collectors of consumer debts and to promote fair debt collection and to serve as a platform for settling disputes and achieving accuracy .
The act also provides several guidelines for the debt collectors. It also prescribes penalties for violation of the law. It is also at times, used along with Fair Credit Reporting Act.
