Consumer Credit Counseling Service
A Consumer Credit Counseling Service provides multiple functions for the individual seeking to divest themselves from a burden of heavy debt and bad credit. In addition to performing a function as a negotiator and intermediary with creditor entities, the service also works with the individual to create a livable budget and teaches them how to avoid falling back into debt in the future.
Often these groups are non-profit entities who are in a position to help the consumer consolidate debts, gain an extended period of time for payment of debts, or to alter the terms of the debt agreement (perhaps, for instance, a renegotiation of the interest rate) all with an eye toward arriving at a repayment plan the debtor can meet on schedule.
By combining these educational and intermediary roles, Consumer Credit Counseling Services in essence perform a financial intervention designed to successful rehabilitate the client's overall financial standing.
